After a twelve-year career in public office Deputy Mayor Eric Hustvedt announced we will not be running for office in this fall’s election for the Municipality of The District of Lunenburg.
He says he now at a point at his life where he’s looking to relax and he now feels the time is right.
Hustvedt said during his time in office providing internet access to more of the community was one of the most impactful projects he helped with, “When I started there were some areas that only had about 30 per cent of homes serviced, since then we’ve made massive strides to improve that.”
While he is stepping away from Council he says he will still find ways to help the community, “I’m got started with public service at the Broadcove Community Hall, the local fire department and other organizations around the region that do a lot of good and I plan to keep helping them.”
Being on council or even just running can be a valuable experience in his opinion and he’s encouraging people to run. “Most people when dealing with the government go to their closest representative which in most cases is a councilor or mayor, so as one you get to be very familiar with what the community wants and hopefully you can offer solutions,” Hustvedt said.
Anyone interested in running can still register until September 8.
