The trip of a lifetime aboard the Picton Castle is over 9 months away but applications to join the crew are now open.
Originally they had planned to travel to the South Pacific this year but the COVID-19 pandemic derailed those plans.
The time off gave key personnel, including the ship’s master, Captain Daniel Moreland, a chance to reconsider the route. “While a South Pacific voyage would have been charming, a world circumnavigation voyage gives us more operational flexibility. Besides, who doesn’t want to sail around the world?” says Moreland.
The voyage will take over 30,000 nautical miles and is set to run from April 2021 to June 2022. In that time the ship and crew will visit 20 ports, including Panama, the Galapagos Islands, Pitcairn Island, French Polynesia, the Cook Islands, Niue, Fiji, Vanuatu, Bali, Rodrigues, Reunion, Cape Town, St. Helena, the Eastern Caribbean and Bermuda.
It will begin as they always do in Lunenburg where crew will be selected and trained ahead of time.
Captain Moreland says they look for one attribute above all else while looking at applications, “Attitude, that’s the number one thing, we can teach someone to sail but we need people who are excited to be there and want to learn.”
He says no prior sailing knowledge is needed and anyone interested in joining can find more information on their website.
