A newcomer is throwing her hat into the ring for Bridgewater Town Council in this Falls municipal election, Erin Carr.
She moved back to Bridgewater two years ago and since then she says shes become heavily invested in municipal politics, missing no more than a handful of meetings in that time, “I think I can count the number of meetings I’ve missed on one hand and after a while, I wanted to more than just participate from the gallery.”
Running for council has been on her mind for a while but before that, she wanted to make sure she was prepared. In recent years she has served on the Canada Day Committee and has been a board member with the DesBrisay Museum and SHAID Animal Shelter. In those roles, she says she gained valuable skills that would help her should she be elected, “Council meetings have a very formal format and part of the reason I served on those boards was so I could learn the mechanics so I would be able to jump into a council position right away and be effective.”
As far as what she’d like to get done on council she identified the wastewater system as an issue she’d like to see addressed. By bolstering the system she feels it will allow more development to take place within town.
She also wants to be a councilor that is easy to communicate with, whether it be by email, phone or in person (once public health restrictions are lifted) she says she will be there to listen to the comments and concerns residents have.
As the election draws nearer she says you can find more information on her campaign through her Facebook page.
