A Lunenburg County entrepreneur is joining the race for an MODL council seat this Fall.
Kacy DeLong has kicked off her campaign in District 8 of the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg, and her long time involvement and work with local government has landed her a couple of endorsements heading into the election.
Both Mahone Bay Councillor Colleen O’Neil and MODL Representative for District 8 Michael Ernst have chipped in to give DeLong a steady push for her candidacy.
“I feel Ms. DeLong has many attributes that would make her a valuable addition to the next Municipal Council,” said Ernst in a release.
“She would add a vision for the future of the Municipality that is shared by many younger members of our communities.”
DeLong is an avid volunteer, working with many organizations around Lunenburg County and is the lead organizer for Community Climate Project – A project aiming at connecting rural communities with active solutions to the climate crisis.
“Fighting the climate crisis and working at a community level is something we can all work on as well as having an impact for everyone around the world,” said DeLong.
She is also passionate about healthcare and the care provided to those in her community, which turned up to support her after her husband, Thomas, fell ill.
“When Thomas was Suffering from Kidney Failure, we found even more reasons to be grateful to live where we do,” she said.
“Our friends and neighbors rallied around us in our time of need. That support from the community shaped who we are as a family. Navigating the healthcare system taught me a great deal about compassion, advocacy and empathy.”
DeLong organized Bridgewater’s first Kidney Walk and designed pewter gift-ware to raise funds and awareness around organ donation, which she calls a ‘Life saving gift.’
DeLong lives in Union Square along with her Husband, Thomas, and their two-year-old son Tobin.
