In December Bridgewater was to host the 2020 Canadian Tire Para Hockey Cup but Hockey Canada has cancelled the event.
In a release, they say the ongoing pandemic and uncertainty surrounding it left them no other choice.
Hockey Canada also announced the cancellation of two other tournaments, those being the 2020 Women’s Under-18 Championship (Dawson Creek, B.C.) and the 2020 World Junior A Challange (Cornwall, ON).
The plan is to reorganize the events with the same hosts in 2021 but that ultimately depends on how the pandemic develops between now and then.
Tom Renney, chief executive officer of Hockey Canada says, “At various rates, provinces from coast-to-coast-to-coast have started moving ahead with their phased re-opening, but as it has been since the season was cancelled, Hockey Canada’s priority remains the health and safety of all participants and the general public. We believe the decision to cancel these three events is the safest decision given the ongoing uncertainty of the pandemic at the local level, as well as the international implications associated with these events. ”
The event was originally scheduled to take place at the LCLC from December 6 to December 8.
