The Discovery Network’s Curse of Oak Island has a following all around the world and that could be helpful as items from the show are being auctioned off in support of the South Shore Health Services Foundation (SSHSF).
It’s the second edition of the “Oak Island Shares the Dream” with the first auction raising $19,000.
The fundraiser is the brainchild of geologist Terry Matheson who appears on the show frequently. According to SSHSF Communications Director Allison Clements without him, it’s unlikely there would be an auction at all, “It was all his idea, and then he reached out to us because he wanted to help the community in which the show is filmed so half of the proceeds from the auction will be rolled into this year’s Radiothon fundraiser.”
The other half of the proceeds will be donated to a charity from Matheson’s home, that being the Colchester East Hants Hospice Society.
One of the most sought after items is likely to be the “Money Pit Core Samples” which are tubes of soil that was dug up in the search for Oak Island’s treasure.
“As you can imagine, while shooting The Curse of Oak Island, Season 5 we stored a large number of Money Pit soil and shaft samples from our treasure hunt that year,” said Matheson. “As I was actually dumping our carefully documented samples onto the ground it occurred to me that people who really care about the program, and the search, might be interested in these products of ‘the hunt’, and might want to purchase this small part of the dream. It would be a unique fundraiser, and ‘Oak Island Shares the Dream’ was born”.
The “Oak Island Shares The Dream: Take 2” auction will launch on September 30, 2020 and will run through to October 3 at 9 p.m. To complement the online auction, there will also be a Facebook Live stream at 7:00 pm October 3, live from Oak Island. The Oak Island samples from the 2017 and 2018 digs are all signed by Rick Lagina, Marty Lagina, Craig Tester and Dave Blankenship.
