We’ve discussed this a lot lately. What is the best Halloween candy?
The thing is, it changes over time. Back when I went Trick-Or-Treating and we rode our dinosaurs around the neighbourhood collecting candy, my favourites were probably things like rockets. I liked rockets. But candy was candy. There were very few things that could be collected on Halloween that were not good.
Apples, maybe. They gave out apples back in the day. The thing was, after you tossed an apple in your bag and dragged it around the neighbourhood for a couple hours, there wouldn’t be a lot left of the apple. Although it could be fun to try to figure out what it was.
The molasses kiss was always on the least favourite list, but that changed over time. To be honest, I grew to like the molasses kiss. Possibly because my children also disliked them, so there were always some left over.
Then they started coming out with small bags of chips. Those went right to the top of the favourite list.
But sometimes the candy that you like best changes over time. Some of this is due to the fact that new things become available. Like the mini chocolate bar. Whoever came up with that idea should get a medal.
But sometimes it also depends on your stage of life.
Like I say, I hated the molasses kiss as a child. I grew to love them as an adult.
So my favourite Halloween candy became whatever I could steal from my children and they wouldn’t care that I had taken it.
Or whatever is left over at the end of the evening. Those are my favourites now.
