After 165 years operating as Indian Garden Farm, the farm owners are considering a name change.
The Hebbville based farm made a Facebook post this week inviting their customers to offer new name suggestions. It has since received hundreds of comments with people offering their suggestions along with many who commented about positive experiences they’ve enjoyed at the farm.
“We were blown away by the support, we’ve had so many suggestions and it’s been great to hear about all the memories people have at our farm,” said farm owner Glen Hebb.

The farms’ name was originally selected by Abraham Hebb and Glen Hebb believes he chose the name because of First Nation artifacts that were found there.
Hebb says the DesBrisay Museum has some record of the artifacts but none of the items survived so they are unsure if there is any truth to the claim of artifacts being found.
The Hebb family also says as they are not descendants of First Nations so they don’t see the name as having much connection to them.
Hebb says “As the current name doesn’t really reflect who we are and with all the concerns over sports teams using First Nation names we thought it was worth asking what people thought.”
Although a majority of the comments have been positive some are negative, suggesting that the name should not change.
One commenter even posed the question “what would your father think” to which Hebb says “My father was always a forward-thinking man who cared about the community, so I know he would support this.
Four names are now being considered; Hebb Family Farm, Hebb Garden Farm, Hebb Hill Farm, and Hebb’s Farm.
The farms’ owner says that they hope to reach a decision on the new name in two weeks, though he says it is possible they won’t change it.
