After a relatively mild Winter, it looks like Spring will follow suit.
Meteorologists are predicting that Nova Scotia and the rest of the Maritimes will see slightly warmer than usual temperatures this Spring.
Weather Network Meteorologist Jessie Uppel says we will likely still see a few days of wintry weather, with below-freezing temperatures and snowfall.
“Some days will still be quite chilly and winter-like but overall with the warmer days that we are expecting the average temperature will likely end up slightly higher than the seasonal average,” Uppel said.
The average temperature for Nova Scotia in the Spring is around 9 degrees and The Weather Networks’ team of meteorologists believe this year will be 0.5-1 degree higher.
Looking at precipitation meteorologists aren’t predicting anything out of the ordinary with South-Western Nova Scotia with it classified as near normal. The remainder of Nova Scotia is forecasted to see above-average precipitation.
“There is a bit of a storm boundary that we see developing near the Fundy Shores and New Brunswick and coupling that with the warmer Atlantic Waters that can make predicting precipitation very volatile,” says Uppel.
She says just a few days of heavy rain can hugely impact seasonal averages so while they are predicting less than usual for South-Western Nova Scotia she says it could end up right in line with seasonal averages or slightly above.
The Weather Network had predicted a mild winter and upon reflection, they feel that prediction was relatively active.
“This winter we saw the cold temperatures get locked in by the jetstream up north around Greenland and Nunavut along with a polar vortex in Central-Northern Canada so temperatures were right around what we expected for Atlantic Canada.”
As for snowfall although there wasn’t much over the entire season a few large storms brought this year’s snowfall figures close to their annual average.
