The last couple of weeks social media has been burning up with people weighing in on the latest pizza “atrocity” – The Loopy Fruit Pizza – it consists of a sweet cream cheese sauce base topped with mozzarella and a layer of Fruit Loops along with a drizzle of Greek yogurt and condensed milk.
Let me say that I’m not a big fan of “sweet” pizzas. Those dessert pizzas they have on the kid’s menus at certain restaurants turn me off.
You could say that I’m old school when it comes to pizza. Sure, I like a good Hawaiian pizza with ham and pineapple from time to time.
A donair pizza is OK, but I’d rather have a donair by itself.
There are two pizzas I have never tried that are on my bucket list, though.
One is a TSP – Thompson Style Pizza made famous in Thompson, Manitoba. Super thick crust, sauce is smokey, tangy, sweet and spicey, lots and lots of meat toppings including a layer of shredded meat!
And, believe it or not, I’ve never had a Pictou County Pizza. Have you heard of this? It’s made with a secret, spicey brown sauce that you may still be able to buy in a jar at Sobeys. But before I try to recreate one of these at home I should probably travel to Truro or Pictou County to try one fresh from the pizza oven.
What’s your perfect pizza?
