Work at South Shore Regional Hospital is set to start on March 30 in order to expand the parking lot.
The hospital is currently in the midst of multiple major upgrades to its ER, day surgery unit, and the recently announced dialysis unit. Once completed the hospital anticipates more visitors and as such, they will need parking to accommodate them.
Medical Services Director Rob Zwicker said, “When all the work is done we will have added 120 new spaces, including the 66 that we added earlier this year.”
As part of the parking expansion, Zwicker says work will also start on a new road that will service the new four-bay ambulance garage.
Looking further ahead, if the hospital were to undertake any other new investments that would vastly increase the number of visitors Zwicker says there is a bit more space they could use to expand parking but they are very close to utilizing all of their land that would be suitable.
With work starting next week the hospital is asking anyone traveling in that area to reduce their speeds as it will be an active worksite for the next few days.
