The Shelburne County Lobster Festival (SCLF) will be more what people are used to this year as the organizing committee announced today that they will be allowing in-person attendance.
Last year the event was held virtually, but as a big part of the event is intended to celebrate eating lobsters that came with its challenges.
SCLF Committee Member Suzy Atwood says last year’s event was successful considering its limitations but they are happy to return to a more typical event format.
“Were very excited to have some in-person events where people can enjoy eating lobster in a multitude of ways,” Atwood said.
This year’s event will still feel the impact of COVID-19. The Lobster Fest Market and the Great Lobsterman Challenge which are typically the largest events of the festival have been canceled in favour of smaller events with fewer people gathering.
“Right now we are working with the various community organizations that have helped plan events for the festival in the past to see what exactly this year’s event will entail.”
Atwood says in the next few weeks they hope to release a schedule with the full festival details.
As travel is still difficult for many the festival intends to maintain a virtual presence as well.
“The committee will still plan to hold some virtual events in collaboration with the smaller in-person community events to celebrate the end of the lobster season,” Atwood said.
Typically the event runs on the first weekend of June but no dates were included in today’s announcement.
