New information is being uncovered regarding the dialogue between Nova Scotia’s Emergency Management Office and the RCMP during last year’s mass murders that began in Portapique and ended just outside of Halifax.
CBC News obtained documents through a freedom of information request revealing the police force and EMO had discussions about sending out an emergency alert on the morning of April 19, 2020.
According to the public broadcaster, the records show officials were discussing the possibility of sending an alert shortly after 8 a.m.
However, approval wasn’t given until five minutes before the suspect was killed in Enfield at 11:26 a.m.
During that time, three people were killed.
The Mounties have faced criticism for its handling of the situation and it’s the focus of a public inquiry into the tragic ordeal which claimed 22 lives.
A panel of experts will deliver an interim report next May with a final report due in November.
