A former municipal councillor will carry the PC banner in the riding of Shelburne when the next provincial election is called.
Nolan Young was selected by party members in a contested nomination meeting held over the weekend.
He spent time as a councillor and deputy mayor with the Town of Shelburne.
“I love the constituency of Shelburne and its incredible potential,” says Young. “The PC’s are putting forward a positive vision for Nova Scotia and I’m excited to join the team that is bringing real leadership back to government.”
The provincial riding of Shelburne is back on the electoral map after an independent commission recommended re-establishing four ridings to provide better representation for minorities and rural Nova Scotia.
The commission called for Argyle, Preston, Clare and Richmond to have their own constituencies once again and a redrawing of the map brought back the riding of Shelburne.
Young is a husband and a father of two and is an instructor at NSCC Shelburne campus.
“Nolan is a hard worker who has shown his dedication to his community,” says PC Leader Tim Houston. “I look forward to having a quality community leader like Nolan join our caucus as we work to bring change to our province.”
Young extends his thanks to those who put their names forward for the nomination.
“Thank you to George El-Jakl and Sterling Belliveau for their participation in this nomination process,” says Young.
“Kim Masland (Queens) and Colton LeBlanc (Argyle-Barrington) have been strong, dedicated voices for the South Shore and I look forward to joining them in standing up for our region.”
