In honour of the Bluenose’s 100th anniversary, Garrison Brewery in partnership with Shirwright Brewing are launching a Bluenose Lager.
According to the two companies, the beer takes inspiration from the hard work, determination and tradition that embodied both the building of the Bluenose in 1921 and continues today in craft brewing.
Garrison COO Brian Titus says the beer itself is a German Helles-style lager, “The beer is very much something that would have been drank in Lunenburg around the time of the bluenose and it would have been popular with the german population from that area.”
Brewmasters Daniel Girard (Garrison) and Kellye Robertson (Shipwright) were the brains behind the beers brewing.
“We wanted a bold, traditional lager with a crisp but light bitterness from German Hallertau hops,” said Kellye. “Daniel and I have worked together many times so I knew the results would be smooth, refreshing and perfect for celebrating the undefeated champion, dubbed the Queen of the North Atlantic”.
Proceed from every can sold will go towards the Bluenose 100 Committee who are spearheading the anniversary celebrations.
The Bluenose Lager will be available at all NSLC locations and some selected bars and restaurants will offer it on tap.
The official launch of the product is set for Friday, April 16, after which it will be available for purchase.
