The Town of Bridgewater is putting on its Punchcard event again and the timing couldn’t be better.
The program is put on by the recreation department with the goal of getting people out and exploring their local community. The way the program is set up you can complete it by yourself or with members of your household, making it the perfect activity to complete while under the current provincial COVID-19 restrictions.
Active Living and Recreation Coordinator Dianne Johnson says residents can print their cards at home along with a map that will help them complete it.
“You can get everything you need to start from your home, which makes this as risk-free as a program can be,” said Johnson.
Along the town’s trails, you will be able to find ten unique hole punches, once located you punch your card in the corresponding spot until you punch all ten.
Johnson says the program which has been running for over 4 years is highly anticipated and she’s always pleased to see the different approaches people take. “Some people rush out and complete their cards in a day, while others will spread it out and take their time.”
Planning recreation programming has been challenging this year according to Johnson who says it’s difficult to plan activities and programs without knowing what restrictions and rules will be in place at any given time.
Despite the challenges in putting on recreation programming Johnson says that Bridgewater is approaching this summer with the hopes that things will be back to normal. “We are gearing up for all of our summer programs like we normally would; planning, hiring, and the like, and then our fingers are crossed we will be allowed to offer those programs.”
Specifically, regarding the town pool which was closed last summer, Johnson says they are planning to open this year but as with their other programs it will ultimately be up to the provincial government to determine whether they can open.
