A long-term care home in Luneburg has announced one of their staff members recently tested positive for COVID-19.
Harbour View Haven announced this afternoon that they received confirmation this morning from the Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA) of the positive test result.
In a release, the long term care home says the staff member in question is now at home and in isolation.
Work is now underway to determine which staff and residents of the care home came into close contact with the positive case and those individuals will need to get a COVID-19 test.
In response to the positive case, the care home has suspended all visits from designated caregivers. Staff will be calling those designated caregivers to inform them of the change and they say they will let them know as soon as the situation changes.
Fortunately, for the care home, a majority of their residents have already been vaccinated with Harbour View claiming that 97 per cent of their residents have been fully vaccinated. They added that 65 per cent of their designated caregivers have also been vaccinated, along with 45 per cent of their staff.
The release issued by Harbour View Haven is signed by CEO Tim McAuley, in which he says, “We continue to strongly encourage staff to get vaccinated. Our PPE supply is in stock and available as necessary.”
“With our immunization numbers and infection control practices, I am optimistic that there will be minimal impact from this situation.”
The care home says they will be providing updates to residents and their family members as the situation develops.
