The Town of Mahone Bay is hopeful for nice weather next week as they plan to install their new three-way stop.
In a release, the town says plans are in place to install a new three-way stop at the intersection of Clearway Street and Main Street.
Currently, there is only one stop sign for traffic coming from Clearway Street but following the changes, traffic will be forced to stop at all sides of the intersection.
Mayor David Devenne will be happy to see the 3-way stop in place, “Pedestrian safety is always a concern in our town, and especially when it impacts our school-aged citizens. The new intersection underscores Council’s focus on that safety.”
The crosswalk at the intersection is a popular route for students from Bayview Community School with it being the primary walking route for any students traveling from the South end of Mahone Bay.
Bayview Principal Lamar Eason says the route is used daily by students and he was pleased to see it approved, “Sometimes people ignore the flashing light and I think this will help improve safety for those using the crosswalk.”
Although Eason says there have not been any incidents with their students at the intersection he says many of his student’s parents had reached out to the town with concerns.
Weather permitting, the town hopes to have the installation completed by the end of next week.
The RCMP and the town will be working together over the coming days to educate the community on the changes and to ensure the new signs are obeyed.
