Update – 6:30 a.m. Tuesday: Firefighters are currently back on the scene of a fire at the Kaizer Meadow Landfill located off of the Windsor Road in Chester.
The fire was extinguished yesterday, but It was noticed around 6:30 this morning that the fire has reignited and fire crews from Chester and Chester Basin are currently on scene.
The Landfill is closed until further notice.
The Municipality of Chester is reporting a major fire at their local dump.
In a Facebook post, the Municipality says the dump has been closed as six fire departments deal with a fire at the Kaizer Meadow Landfill.
Fire Departments from Kings, Lunenburg, and Hants Counties have been dispatched along with three other departments that were unnamed.
A local firefighter who has been in contact with some of the crews on the scene says the fire was still significant around 2:45 p.m.
He added that traffic along Windsor Road is not being affected as the Kaizer Meadow is approximately 10 kilometers from the main road.
According to the firefighter, fires are not uncommon at the landfill as gasses tend to build up creating ignition hotspots.
Firefighters also believe it is possible this fire started from a lightning strike as a storm was in the area around the time the fire was first reported.
