The Lunenburg Doc Fest is celebrating its eighth anniversary this year and they are hopeful they will be able to fill the fifth edition of their senior’s workshop.
The seniors’ workshop aims to teach people over the age of 55 the ins and outs of documentary filmmaking. Doc Fest Executive Director Pamela Segger says by the end of the six-week program the workshop participants will have produced a full-length documentary.
“This year the educational aspects of the course will be done online but we will be able to get out there for filming after getting the necessary permissions,” said Segger.
She says the documentary then gets premiered at the Lunenburg Doc Fest and in some cases it gets picked up by other festivals and distributed more widely.
This year’s theme for the seniors workshop documentary is “Food Security for All” which will be the theme of the documentary they produce.
In 2020, the theme was “The Art of Change” which you can watch below.
The program runs for six weeks, starting on Monday, May 31. Registration can be done online up until Monday morning.
In addition to being a valuable educational experience, it also is key to the success of the Lunenburg Doc Fest as a whole. According to Segger by offering programs specifically designed for seniors they are able to access more public grants that allow the festival to operate.
A youth workshop will also be offered as part of this year’s festival, more details on that program will be made available next week.
