With half the Atlantic provinces poised to reopen to the rest of the country, Premier Iain Rankin says the Atlantic bubble is no more.
Newfoundland and Labrador and New Brunswick have announced plans to open to vaccinated travellers from anywhere in the county by Canada Day.
Rankin says the provincial government had been considering allowing visitors from other Atlantic provinces early in July.
“I don’t think you could call it a bubble,” he says. “When New Brunswick and Newfoundland made decisions to move beyond Atlantic.”
PEI and our province have taken a more reserved approach.
Rankin says we’re still considering reopening to vaccinated Atlantic Canadians by that date, but not looking at reopening to non-Atlantic provinces until at least the middle of July.
“What we’re looking at is a phased in approach,” he says, “Allowing for Atlantic Canadians to start to look at potentially coming into our province.”
Rankin says we’re further behind than the rest of the country, our third wave is just ending, so it’s natural we’re using a more conservative timeline.
