PC candidate Danielle Barkhouse is running in the riding of Chester-St. Margaret’s.
Barkhouse previously spent 17 years working in the nursing field and has been a councilor for 2 terms in the Municipality of Chester.
She feels there are many issues facing her constituents but mental health and healthcare are among the most prominent.
“We plan on giving incentive to healthcare providers to keep them here in Nova Scotia and we plan on trading out a lot of the old equipment that they use,” explained Barkhouse. “We have lots of plans.”
She said she’s extremely passionate about seniors and adds that the PC party plans to increase the hours of care seniors receive in nursing homes.
“Right now we have seniors in nursing homes that do not get enough TLC,” Barkhouse said. “So if we up it to 4.1 hours, people are going to get better care.”
Barkhouse explained that the PC’s believe that seniors want to stay in their homes but cannot due to financial struggles and added they plan to offer tax credits to help with some expenses.
She said she feels most of the issued being faced right now are intertwined.
“If you start helping out with the economy and if you start helping with mental health, then your going to start seeing other things progress,” said Barkhouse.
Barkhouse is running against Liberal Jacob Killawee, NDP candidate Amy Retisma, Green Jessica Alexander and Atlantica candidate Steven Foster.
