The Federal Election is set to take place on September 20 and it’s beginning to look like it around the South Shore.
Signs are beginning to pop up around the region of the two candidates that have declared so far.
So far we have candidates from the Liberal and Conservative parties.
Representing the Liberals will be incumbent Fisheries and Oceans Minister Bernadette Jordan. The former health services worker will be looking to win the riding for the third consecutive election.
She is likely to face questions throughout the campaign about her handling of the recent rise in Indigenous fisheries which has been a hot topic locally and nationally.
The Conservative banner will be carried by Rick Perkins who is an experienced businessman in both the private and public sectors.
The NDP has yet to nominate a candidate and we have reached out to their national campaign office to see where they are with that process. By the time of publication, we had not heard back from them.
Candidates have until August 31 to submit the necessary documents to ensure they are on the ballot for the election on September 20.
