It won’t just be lawn signs for candidates around the South Shore if Vernon Simms has his way.
Simms is spearheading the Vote Housing project this election which aims to brings awareness to the issues surrounding homelessness and affordable housing.
The project is encouraging anyone who is prioritizing housing as an issue this election to put a sign on their lawns indicating just that.
Vote Housing signs are available to print online or you can contact Simms to get larger signs.
“I’d like to see signs all over the South Shore because we know that these issues are impacting people here,” Simms said.
As part of the program, a survey was conducted locally to see how people feel about the housing situations. In Lunenburg County, 54 per cent of respondents said they felt their housing situation was unstable or they could lose their housing. Adding to that burden 50 per cent of those surveyed also said they were experiencing difficulties with high energy costs.
Simms says the program speaks in a language that politicians understand very clearly- votes, “It will show just how many people are looking to vote for the party that has the best plans to end homelessness and improve affordable housing,”.
In order to further educate local residents about the situation, Simms plans to host an information session in the near future, when more details are available you will be able to find them on our website.
