Lunenburg District RCMP have charged a man that used a weapon to assault a police officer on Hwy. 3 in Simms Settlement.
On October 26, police were called to a home where a 39-year-old man was believed to be in breach of a court order. While on their way to the home, police also determined that the man was the subject of an Arrest Warrant.
The first officer to arrive at the house was assaulted by a man with a weapon resulting in minor injuries to the officer.
A second police officer arrived on the scene shortly after and the man began threatening to kill both officers. The man attempted to assault the second officer and the officer deployed his taser.
Police were then able to disarm the assailant and take him into custody.
He was later identified as Kenneth Alexander Morrison, 39, of Simms Settlement. Morrison has been charged with the following:
- Assaulting a Peace Officer with a Weapon
- Assaulting a Peace Officer
- Assault
- Uttering Threats
- Resist Arrest (2 counts)
- Failure to Comply with a Release Order (3 counts)
Morrison was held in custody overnight and appeared in Bridgewater Provincial Court on October 27. Morrison remains in police custody as he awaits another date in Provincial Court on November 4.
