Judge Paul Scoville agreed this week to once again delay the trial of Tobias Doucette who faces 14 charges stemming from an alleged domestic dispute at the Bridgewater Motel.
The preliminary trial was originally scheduled to take place in June however Scoville at the request of Doucette’s lawyer agreed to postpone that date.
At this week’s court session Scoville once again agreed to push back the trial until July 2022.
Sgt. Matthew Bennet of the Bridgewater Police Service was stabbed while responding to the domestic dispute at the motel. Following the stabbing Doucette fled and proceed to evade police for five days as they launched a regional manhunt.
During the course of the manhunt, Doucette is believed to have stabbed a police dog with a stick as it was chasing him down in the woods.
The 14 charges Doucette’s faces include an attempted murder charge for the attack on Sgt. Bennet.
Doucette was released on bail in October though he must follow strict conditions. He was released on house arrest and is living with a relative, his passport has been confiscated, he must check in with police on a weekly basis and he is prohibited from possessing or consuming drugs and alcohol.
