More long-term care beds are being made available in Liverpool as the province announced plans for a new 96-bed facility.
The new facility will replace Queens Manor and Hillsview Acres which together have a total of 90 beds.
Planning is still in the very early stages according to Andrew MacVicar, Executive Director of Queens Manor, “The hard work starts now, the first step will be securing a project manager.”
The new facility is projected to cost around $50 million and is slated to be completed by December 2024.
“There are long waitlists for long-term care and that’s not acceptable. That’s why we are taking action and building or renovating more than 2,500 new single-bed rooms over three years,” said Barbara Adams, Minister of Seniors and Long-Term Care. “This new facility in Liverpool will be among the first of these projects. With the addition of these beds, we can provide peace of mind and improve access to care for more Nova Scotians.”
The facility will be built to the highest standard across Canada for long-term care facilities. All residents will have single rooms and washrooms.
Plans to replace Queens Manor were first made public in July when the Rankin government announced plans to renovate or replace 17 LTC facilities in the province. The Houston government has since committed to following through with those projects.
