Maritime Hockey League President Steve Dykeman is stepping down from his position according to a letter sent out by league officials today.
The MHL says Dykeman is leaving effective immediately with league Vice-President Cecil Taylor taking over his role on an interim basis.
The league did not provide a reason for Dykeman’s departure but they offered him thanks for his over two years of service.
Dykeman was first hired in June 2019 amidst the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic which has been a challenge for sports organizations across the world.
Despite the hardships endured throughout the pandemic which saw many games canceled and seasons get cut shore Dykeman says his time with the league was a great experience and a “unique opportunity,”.
Dykeman also says that after two years in his role he believes the teams of the MHL enjoy some of the best hockey fans in the world along with top-tier youth talent.
The search for a permanent replacement for Dykeman is expected to begin in the next few days.
