Lunenburg RCMP are investigating a smash and grab art robbery they believe took place during the early hours of April 7.
They were called to the Lunenburg Foundry on Falkland street early that morning after receiving reports the front window had been broken.
Police confirmed the window had been smashed, and the art display behind it stolen.
The Foundry’s front window was being used by artist Chippie Kennedy to display some of her sculptures, three of which were taken.
They are described as ;
- An almost life sized plaster Female Figure sculpture
- A solid brass Hare (rabbit) sculpture
- A smaller sculpture of a face
RCMP believe the theft took place late on the night of April 6, or in the early morning of April 7. Anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicous around those times in Lunenburg is asked to contact the local RCMP detachment.
Cst. Paul McCallion believes a car was likely used in the heist due to the size and shape of the sculptures, “It would have been very hard for one person to carry these sculptures as one is particularly long and awkward and altogether it would have weighed around 8o pounds,” he said.
He added that should anyone purchase these sculptures in the future whether they are know they are stolen or not they would be subject to being repossesed.
