In their first season as an amalgamated team that encompasses the entire South Shore, the Western Riptide claimed a provincial title.
The U11 Riptide Girls team participated in the Nova Scotia Hockey Female Provincial Championships in Halifax which saw teams from eight divisions complete their seasons.
After winning their semi-final in overtime, the girls played the Metro West Force Warriors. In a hard-fought contest, the Riptide prevailed, winning 3-0.
Goaltenders Neveah Corkum and Breana Langille shared the shutout in the final, with goals coming from Summer Doucette, Paige Lowe and Emberlee Peverelle.
Head Coach Tim Lowe says with the pandemic looming over the season they were unsure how it would all unfold but ultimately it concluded perfectly, “Early in the season we dropped a few pre-season games, but as things went on we started gelling as a team and really coming together and the wins followed,” Lowe said.
He went on to commend the parents of the players on the team, recognizing the efforts they put in to make this season a success, “Even with the shutdowns, with practice only being allowed in January we always had all our players show up and with kids coming from all around the South Shore that takes a big commitment,”.
About half of the team is set to age out of the U11 division this year, but Lowe is confident with the girls sticking around and the new players they will have another successful season next year.
