Cake & Loaf is a small bakery in Hamilton, ON that has a loyal following that enjoys its savory and sweet creations and now after moving to the South Shore co-owner Josie Rudderham has released a book featuring its recipes that have been developed over the last 15 years.
“The book is sort of our love letter to all of our loyal fans and hopefully a lot of new ones as well,” Rudderham said. “In that time we’ve worked on over 1,000 recipes and all of our favorites are now out there for everyone.”
The bakery is still operating even after Rudderham decided to move away, a decision she says she’s not looking back on, “I don’t think we’ll be moving again, we’ve found exactly where we belong.”
She initially moved here last October and as the pandemic continued to unfold Rudderham says she made the realization she could work from home, as she began taking over the book-keeping and marketing for her bakery.

Rudderham says she has no intentions of opening a Cake & Loaf in Nova Scotia instead focusing on writing more books in the future.
The book itself which shares a name with the bakery takes most of its inspiration from English baking according to Rudderham. She says her recipes tend to be the more savoury ones, while her business partner and co-author Nickey Miller handled more of the sweet ones, “In the book and in the bakery, I’m the loaf and Nickey is the cake,”.
The book is now available at the West Lahave Bookstore as well as online on Amazon and Coles.
