Students graduating from NSCC Lunenburg this year will be able to partake in a full-scale convocation this year after the pandemic derailed normal graduation ceremonies for the past two years.
The ceremony at NSCC Lunenburg will take place on campus on Wednesday, June 8, starting at noon.
The event is one of 20 convocation celebrations taking place across the province to mark the achievements of more than 4,000 NSCC graduates.
All ceremonies will be live-streamed at nscc.ca/convocation and will also be available on YouTube in the days following the event.
“Convocation is the culmination of our students’ hard work, determination and perseverance during these challenging times,” says NSCC President Don Bureaux. “It’s an honour to celebrate this important milestone in each graduate’s journey to achieving fulfillment in their lives and careers.”
Scott Curtis, a graduate of the Heritage Carpentry Diploma, has been chosen as the Lunenburg Campus valedictorian. Curtis enrolled after he lost his job due to the pandemic, he felt as though the perfect opportunity to explore a career change had presented itself. Driven by his love and respect for the history and culture of Nova Scotia, Scott decided to enroll in the Carpentry Diploma program.
Catherine MacLean, who is being presented with an NSCC honorary diploma, will also address attendees in Lunenburg. She is retiring as Vice President of the College. An honorary diploma is the highest form of recognition presented by NSCC. Recipients are chosen based on their contributions to the community and the College.
