At the most recent Municipality of the District of Lunenburg council meeting, councilors listened to a presentation on a potential community hub in Osprey Village.
Colliers International was tasked by the council earlier in the year to conduct a feasibility study on the project and present on what it would look like.
They presented the design for a 13,411 square foot building that would contain; a Farmers Market (Indoor/Outdoor stalls), retail space, a commercial kitchen, a community room, and meeting rooms.
Those components were included based on resident and stakeholder feedback that Colliers received as part of their feasibility study.
The presentation estimated that the total cost of the project would be a little over $9 million. Based on the proposed design and expected usage it’s estimated the community hub could generate around $187,000 in revenue annually with annual operating expenses estimated to be around $143,000.
Council did not make any decision on the proposal at the time of the presentation.
In a statement to our newsroom, MODL Mayor Carolyn Bolivar Getson said, “Council welcomed the presentation, but it was received as information only. No decisions have been made, timelines determined, or budget allocated at this time. MODL is investing in infrastructure to support continued expansion and development in Osprey Village, and we expect to continue to do so through a variety of projects. The community hub is one such project being considered.”.
