It’s not often you get to launch a beer that celebrates the elementary school you attended but that’s exactly what Shipwright Brewing owner Adam Bower has done.
“I’ve had the idea for a while now, we’ve never done a red ale and they are really popular right now so for a while I’ve had the idea of making a beer in tribute of the Lunenburg Academy,” said Bower.
Initially, Bower approached the Lunenburg Academy Foundation about making a beer but at that time they weren’t interested, however, that has since changed the launch of the “Saved by the Bell – Now it’s Your Turn! ” campaign which aims to restore and display the old school bell.
Saved by the Bell was launched in November of 2021, which saw the bell restored, polished, and ready for its new home on the grounds of Lunenburg Academy. The bell restoration work was carried out in partnership with the Lunenburg Foundry, the same organization that originally forged the 650 lb bell in 1895. “Lunenburg Foundry has done an exceptional job in this restoration, and we couldn’t be happier with the results of their work.” said Rachel Bailey, President, Lunenburg Academy Foundation.
“I am excited to be involved in the final push towards achieving the goal of the Next Century Capital Campaign, by offering this unique tribute to the Academy. Our family has long-standing ties to Lunenburg Academy through generations of alumni.” said Bower.
Since 1981, the Lunenburg Academy Foundation has partnered with the Town of Lunenburg, all levels of government, the private sector and the community at large to protect and invest in this important National Historic Site. The Foundation’s Next Century Capital Campaign, is moving towards reaching its goal of 1.5 million. Bell Ringer Red will lead the initiative through its final wrap up, ensuring the continued care and restoration of this iconic example of our national heritage.
