As we welcome December the excitement is building around CKBW turning 75 years old.
We have been enjoying sifting through the classic clips of days gone by. What a perfect way to remember how great it has been entertaining and informing the South Shore for three quarters of a century.
How times have changed. From the days of live performers waiting for the red “On Air” light to shine before they start performing. To threading Reel-to-reel machines, hoping the tape would not break while the program was being played on the air. Spinning records that had to be selected from the giant library before the announcer started their shift. Then using CDs and now having the convenience of everything on a computer and let’s not even mention the commercials on Carts, haha.
Here are a few of the memories we have found for the celebration of CKBW’s 75th Anniversary. Enjoy.
Here is a memory. How many of you have the CKBW Telefun Cookbooks?
Bob MacLaren co-hosted the TELEFUN program with Ginny Flemming on CKBW.
The show ran for 13 years and these two cookbooks of original local recipes were printed as a result.
