The Region of Queens is moving forward with plans to construct a new library near the community’s primary recreation complex the Queens Place Emera Centre.
Determining where the library will go has been a lengthy process, the Library Steering Committee which was formed to spearhead the planning when tasked with finding a location initially suggested a spot near the Queens Place Emera Centre however council didn’t agree at the time and tasked them with finding another suitable location.
After doing more research the Library Steering Committee determined that pursuing locations, not near the Queens Place Emera Centre would add approximately $500,000 to the project’s cost.
With that information council then revisited the idea of a location near Queens Place Emera Centre. Ultimately they voted in favour of a site next to the sledding hill on Queens Place Drive.
Now that a location has been determined work can begin on design and development after which there will be a better idea of when the new library will be complete.
