The Shelburne RCMP swiftly arrested two men involved in attempted vehicle thefts in Ohio.
On May 18, 2023, an off-duty RCMP officer witnessed the suspects attempting to gain access to a parked truck at a local business on Ohio Rd.
Immediately contacting the Shelburne Detachment, the off-duty officer requested on-duty members to attend the scene. However, the suspects fled into nearby woods before their arrival. In a coordinated effort, RCMP Police Dog Services were called in to assist with locating the men.
Following multiple sightings reported by vigilant witnesses and a subsequent attempted vehicle theft from a carpool lot, the suspects were located and safely arrested by RCMP officers. Notably, investigations revealed that one of the apprehended individuals had an outstanding warrant related to an armed robbery that occurred in the Lockeport area in February 2023.
The two men, aged 24 and 32, from Shelburne, now face charges in connection with the attempted vehicle thefts. The 24-year-old, charged with Mischief and Breach of Probation, will remain in custody until appearing at Shelburne Provincial Court on June 7, 2023. The second individual, aged 32, was released on conditions and will face a charge of Mischief.
