I’m a big fan of gadgets and tech, so when self checkouts first came out I stepped right up.
Unfortunately in the early days of stores using self checkouts there were a lot of problems.
Especially if you had something from the meat or produce department that was marked down.
Every time I used the self checkout I’d have to get someone to over ride whatever the original price was on marked down items.
These days I avoid the darned things whenever I can, unless I’m just in picking up a few things.
A British supermarket chain , Booths, is getting rid of their self checkouts, while over here Walmart and Costco are putting the brakes on their push to get everyone to use them.
Some days I like the little bit of interaction with a live person at the checkout and other days I don’t want to talk to anyone and just like to curse the self checkout when it asks for a donation to something or other.
How do you feel about self checkouts these days?
