Growing up, a strict rule in our house was that presents were opened only on Christmas morning – no exceptions.
My brother and I were able to modify that rule a little bit one Christmas,.
My parents had friends over for some Christmas cheer on Christmas Eve and I think they may have stayed up too late.
Which meant Dad had to put our toys together after the guests left, then he got an hour’s sleep before he got up at 4am to go to work (He was on duty on a ship in the Navy)
My brother and I heard him up and thought it was time to get up and open our presents.
So, the exception to the rule was if we woke up early on Christmas Day we could go out to the living room and take our stockings back to our bedroom.
Later on I found out that other kids got to open one present on Christmas Eve. And not the mittens from grandma either. It was usually a toy of some sort.
What were the Christmas rules in your house?
