Two EHS paramedics were involved in a rollover while driving an ambulance Tuesday night in Union Square (Lunenburg County).
No patients were on board as the ambulance rolled over, and New Germany Fire was initially called to assist with an entrapment. The paramedics however were able to exit the overturned ambulance themselves, and the call for an extraction was retracted.
EHS provided a statement on the incident but could not provide further information on any injuries sustained due to privacy regulations.
EHS Operations can confirm that an ambulance was involved in an incident the evening of January 16. The crew were returning to the paramedic station in New Germany when road conditions began to deteriorate due to the inclement weather. As a result, the ambulance went off the road. There were no patients on board. The paramedic crew are being supported by their supervisors and being provided with all resources available for such incidents. The safety of our employees and all Nova Scotians is our top priority.
Adverse road conditions are believed to have played a key factor, as the incident occurred in the late evening Tuesday, while roads were saturated with slush and water after a full day of snow and rain.
A tow truck was then called to remove the ambulance, while the Department of Transportation was advised of the poor road conditions in the area.
