It wasn’t a bad evening on Saturday. Not as warm as we might like it, but it was still nice enough to sit outside and relax for a while.
I will admit, I was a bit tired. I’m not used to spending an entire day on my feet. And while I’m at it, a big thank you to everyone who dropped by the S.H.A.I.D. yard sale over the weekend. I know I enjoyed seeing and talking to everyone.
But after I got home and got something to eat, I sat back on the deck for a while. Since I had just finished eating, I thought it was fair to put out a few seeds for whoever might happen by. Since we were getting close to dark, I don’t put a lot out at that time of day. It tends to encourage the raccoons. I don’t dislike raccoons, but they aren’t great at conversation. They tend to get a bit snarly, which is a little off putting. So I try not to encourage them.
However, I do like to have a chat with any squirrels that come by. For one thing, squirrels just tend to look at you with a confused look on their faces. Probably wondering just what we are and what we want. On Saturday evening however, it was not your usual squirrel. It was a flying squirrel who dropped by, just as it was getting toward dusk.
I know I have mentioned that a few times before, but I do like flying squirrels. They don’t seem quite as jittery as their red squirrel relatives. Maybe they’re on a low caffeine diet or something. Which really, red squirrels should try. They always seem to be on edge. Flying squirrels seem a bit more chill.
He and I had quite a chat. At least as long as the seeds lasted. He seemed quite interested in hearing about the yard sale, although I’m not sure he quite understood the concept. And he was fairly quiet through the whole thing, unlike the red squirrels, who seem to feel the need to yell at everything.
I know a lot of people still don’t quite believe they exist. You have to have food available for them, and you have to be around at the right time of day.
This little guy was pretty focused on food, but it was nice of him to drop by. I hope to see him a few more times over the next few months.
