Many years ago I heard something that stuck with me. It was probably one of those times I was filling in for news. But someone told me “Read the news, don’t be the news”. Made perfect sense. Being in the news is usually not a good thing. So when my alarm went off this morning and I heard my name in the news, there was a moment of panic. But I guess the circumstances are okay in his case.
If you missed it, I’m retiring. I don’t think it’s a big deal. It’s probably the easiest thing I’ve done. All you have to do is get old. Although I will admit there were a few times when I may have put that in doubt. But I managed to make it.
I have no idea what’s next in my life, but I’m sure something will come along. As I have been saying to people, I think it’s about time I figured out what I want to do when I grow up. Then again, I’m not likely to ever grow up. So we’ll see.
To the others here at the radio stations, it has been a pleasure to work with you. I’ve enjoyed it immensely.
And to those who listened to me, thank you in particular. It’s you that have made this job a true pleasure.
They say find something you truly enjoy and you’ll never work a day in your life. I’ve done very little work. And I’ve had a whole lot of fun.
Thank you. I’ll see you around.
