Crews from over 130 boats have descended on Chester for this year’s annual racing regatta.
Chester Race Week 2024 is poised to be one of if not the largest edition of the event which has taken place for over 100 years.
“For many of us, this is a special time of year when friends, family, and competitors get together in one of the most visually stunning parts of our province for a four-day event in the hope of taking home a coveted award or trophy,” said Dan Conrad the on-water Chair for this year’s races.
“We currently have 132 boats registered, This year, we are hosting the J70 Canadian Championships, a growing pursuit course (Spinnaker, White Sail, and Classics), large PHRF fleets, and One Design fleets, which include a growing J105 class.”
As a result of all the sailors in town most hotels, restaurants and other accommodations are going to be full throughout Race Week which wraps up Saturday night.
For any non-sailors, there is also lots of dryland activities taking place at the Chester Yacht Club including live music, food vendors and more.
As for the weather conditions they are favourable for Tuesday’s racing with a light overcast, average windspeeds and a projected high of 25 degrees. Wednesday and Thursday’s races look likely to be impacted by rain and then for the races on Friday and Saturday, things are expected to be ideal with clear skies, warm temperatures and good wind.
