In celebration of National Acadian Day, the province of Nova Scotia has announced a handful of organizations that are receiving grant funding to promote Acadian Heritage.
The announcement was made in the middle of the Congrès mondial Acadien 2024 which is currently taking place in Clare and Argyle.
“Today is National Acadian Day, honouring the rich history, distinct identity and vibrant traditions of the Acadian people, which date back four centuries,” said Colton LeBlanc, Minister of Acadian Affairs and Francophonie. “This investment demonstrates our commitment to preserving and promoting our heritage to ensure all Nova Scotians can celebrate our province’s Acadian legacy and resilient spirit.”
In some cases, the grants have already been awarded as many of the recipients received funds to either participate in the Congrès mondial Acadien 2024 or to attend.
Denise Comeau Desautels, President of the Acadian Cultural Federation of Nova Scotia said the grants have made it so the Congrès has representatives from across Nova Scotia where Acadian culture began.
“The Acadian Cultural Federation of Nova Scotia expresses its gratitude to the Government of Nova Scotia for supporting the community in celebrating Acadian Heritage Month, as well as to the various organizations involved in honouring Acadian heritage,” said Desautels.
