Unifor is applauding the federal government for imposing a tariff on electric cars from China.
The government implemented a 100 per cent tariff on imported eclectic vehicles from the country yesterday.
The union represents more than 320,000 private sector workers across the country.
Unifor says the tariffs will help bolster car-building in Canada as the economy shifts to cleaner energy.
The government will also implement a 25 per cent surtax on steel and aluminum imports from China, starting Oct. 15.
The union says that move will help Canadian compete with what they say are unfairly made Chinese goods.
