The nationwide strike by Canada Post workers continues as the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) and Canada Post return to the bargaining table with federal mediator Peter Simpson.
Negotiations resumed Monday after workers walked off the job Friday, halting mail and parcel deliveries.
The union is demanding higher wages, better health and safety conditions, and improvements to benefits. CUPW President Jan Simpson says workers also want progress on Canada Post’s proposed seven-day delivery expansion, which the union believes should be built on a fair collective agreement.
Canada Post has offered an 11.5 percent wage increase over four years but both sides are reporting they remain far apart.
The federal government has emphasized that arbitration is not being considered at this time.
