The federal government is investing over $4.5 million to expand tourism in Cape Breton, supporting eight projects aimed at improving visitor experiences and attracting more year-round travel.
“People come to Cape Breton from around the world for its incredible hospitality, great music, and beautiful scenery,” said Gudie Hutchings, Minister of Rural Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA. “Your federal government is helping tourism businesses make their home even more welcoming and accessible year-round.”
The funding will support a mix of new accommodations and facility upgrades. Cabot Cape Breton is building a 23,747-square-foot facility at Cabot Cliffs, featuring a spa, fitness center, and high-end dining. Sidanna Retreat is adding two oceanfront chalets in South Harbour, while Marble Mountain Estates will establish accommodations at its Bras d’Or Lake property. Love Life Lodging is constructing six cottages in the Ingonish Highlands near the Cabot Trail.
The Village of Baddeck is receiving funding to redevelop its waterfront boardwalk, adding wider pathways, seating, lighting, and improved access to the water. The Celtic Music Interpretive Centre Society is making upgrades to enhance visitor experience and expand its cultural programming. North Highlands Nordic Ski Club is purchasing a ski groomer to improve winter trail conditions, and Theatre Baddeck Society is renovating a permanent space at Greenwood United Church to accommodate larger audiences.
“Cape Breton is a destination unlike any other,” said Jaime Battiste, MP for Sydney–Victoria. “From breathtaking coastal hikes to lively festivals and warm hospitality, visitors are creating unforgettable memories. Thanks to the dedication of passionate tourism operators and the support announced today, we’re opening our doors wider than ever.”
The funding is provided through ACOA’s Innovative Communities Fund and the Regional Economic Growth through Innovation program. Mike Kelloway, MP for Cape Breton–Canso, emphasized that these investments will help grow the local economy. “We’re creating new year-round experiences, enhancing existing offerings, improving accessibility, and adding exceptional accommodations to encourage even more people to visit and enjoy our Island.”
