Environment Canada has issued special weather statements along Nova Scotia’s Atlantic coast, warning of significant rainfall beginning this afternoon and continuing into Friday morning. Forecasters expect 25 to 50 millimetres of rain, with higher amounts possible in some areas.
Poor drainage conditions caused by ice buildup are increasing the risk of localized flooding. Many municipal units have issued notices urging residents to clear storm drains, as frozen debris could prevent proper water runoff. Low-lying areas and roads with poor drainage could see pooling water, creating hazardous travel conditions.
The special weather statements apply to:
- Halifax Metro and Halifax County West
- Guysborough County
- Lunenburg County
- Queens County
- Shelburne County
- Yarmouth County
Officials are advising residents to monitor local forecasts and take precautions, especially in flood-prone areas.
