The Nova Scotia 55+ Games have officially launched, with events set to take place across Lunenburg County from September 21 to 24, 2025. The launch event unveiled the official logo and website, which will provide information on volunteer opportunities, event locations, and accommodations for visitors.
Co-chair Joanne Fury says the Games will bring together more than 700 participants from across the province. “The 55+ Games are a provincial event that welcomes teams from different regions. Some events serve as qualifiers for national competitions, but it’s also about giving the 55+ community a chance to socialize and be part of something bigger,” she said.
Competitions will take place in various locations, from Bridgewater and Mahone Bay to Chester and Lunenburg, with hockey matches extending into Liverpool at Queens Place Emera Centre. Events range from traditional sports like track and field and biking to strategic games such as chess and darts.
The Games are expected to generate over $500,000 in economic spinoffs for the region, based on a study conducted with provincial assistance. Fury says organizers are looking for at least 100 volunteers to help run events, in addition to securing corporate sponsorships to support the Games’ $200,000 budget.
“Each event will have a lead coordinator and a team of volunteers,” she said. “Beyond the competitions, there are also social and evening events that will need extra help.”
Anyone 55 or older can participate in the Games, with no qualification required. Registration details and event listings can be found at ns55plus.ca.
