Mark Carney in Edmonton to announce his bid to become leader of the federal Liberal Party, CPAC screen shot, January 16, 2025
A new Leger poll shows the federal Conservatives leading with 38 percent support, while the Liberals sit at 35 percent, a two-point increase from last week. Conservative support declined three points over the same period.
The survey also tested hypothetical leadership scenarios. If former Bank of Canada governor Mark Carney were leading the Liberals, support for the party would increase to 40 percent, surpassing the Conservatives, who would remain at 38 percent.
The poll was conducted online from February 21 to 23, 2025, with 1,534 Canadian respondents aged 18 and older. The results were weighted to reflect the national population.
The report includes breakdowns of voting intentions by region, gender, and age, as well as an analysis of leadership impacts. It also compares polling accuracy with past election results.
